Episode 9: MP Ferreri Has Blown Past Spending Expectations Too
Every 3 month Quarter, the House of Commons releases MP expenses claimed and approved, which can be viewed here.
We've been documenting Peterborough MP Michelle Ferreri's spending since her election in 2021. This year, she'll easily blow past cost expectations. Oddly coincidental that this is what she's been screeching about towards the Liberals in the House of Commons this week.
Her cost to Riding taxpayers as of September 2024?
And if we review her cost to taxpayers, year over year, comparing the same 3 Quarters (Q4 is not yet available for 2024), she has cost taxpayers $135,000 more in 2024 than when she was first elected!
Let's review, year by year. From September 2021 - December 2022. Learning the ropes, staff don't seem to stay and she's certainly gotten the hang of expensing travel and contracts by the end of 2022.
Next, January 2023 - December 2023, the hallmark of which is her wildly fluctuating staffing costs, which continue to dog her in 2024, and the massive increase in travel expenses, visiting 8 provinces and territories since her election. This is the year she claimed "reuniting with two of her children" (who live with her) to accompany her to Kelowna BC for a very expensive summer week for one half-day meeting.Lastly, January 2024 - September 2024 with one more Quarter to go - and she will blow past her expected spending by year's end. Consistent staffing is a huge issue and she's hired a videographer for "commercials".
Her cost to us per work day has risen by $500+/day this Quarter.
Highlights of this Quarter?
- Ferreri will blow past her own 2 year average spending by the end of 2024;
- She's entered into a commercial video creation contract with local business; Odiski Media, 1st contract = $1,500 July 29, 2024, expensed as a “Communications Officer”;
- 3rd highest spending Quarter to date;
- Added new staff again, ~$10K/month x 3 months;
- Flew to Newfoundland with a staff person for 3 days with “some” meetings, visiting an Aquatic Research Facility (her Shadowy Ministry? Not) & campaigned for a new Conservative candidate in a 20 year Liberal-held Riding for a cost of $6,000.
So much useless, vs the scandals she's been involved in this Quarter. How can we forget her very public spat with Minister Fraser over refusing to support our Riding's 2 housing fund applications, another spat with our local news media and almost every NDP, Liberal MP and non-Conservative Committee witness?
"Homeless people are criminals"!
"No one will tell me what to do with my uterus!", then votes No on budget items and Committee report recommendations that shows us she's fine with telling everyone else what to do with their uterus.
"Parents are trafficking their kids for food!"
UGH.
