Episode 5: MP Ferreri's Lies: Status of Women Committee Having None Of It

Taking time to watch Status of Women Committee meetings is a necessary and interesting endeavour. My Peterborough MP Michelle Ferreri has quite a history of abusing her allocated time on this Committee, using it as a clip factory to get Pierre Poilievre elected. If you've watched any of it over the last 2 years, you know that this is true.

You may remember this interaction from last year where newly-resigned MP Vandenbeld called out our MP for manipulating Committee time and business for clips:

Within minutes of this exchange, Michelle Ferreri posted a clip that misrepresented what had occurred during this meeting - after protesting that this is not what she does!

Fast forward a year, and this same behaviour by her has continued bolder & unabated, to Monday, November 25, 2024 and the Status of Women Committee members MP Leah Gazan and MP Pam Damoff are not having it. The topic is Gender Based Violence and Femicide.

MP Gazan opens her remarks, while directly looking at Michelle Ferreri:

MP Gazan then asks Witness Heidi Rathjen, Founder of both PolyRemembers, a group formed in the aftermath of Montreal's Ecole Polytechnique massacre and Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Coalition for Gun Control, what the impact of the gun lobby is on femicides, intimate partner violence and gender based violence. Ms. Rathjen's response specifically notes Conservatives and Pierre Poilievre and as she's speaking, the Chair, Conservative MP Shelby Kramp-Neuman, cuts her off from continuing her remarks:

Lastly, our MP Michelle Ferreri is challenged by MP Pam Damoff regarding the social media post she put out last week to her 136,000 followers where she said "Child killers have free access to children in prison" referring to the mother-child rehabilitation programs offered in federal prisons. MP Damoff brings the facts, and it is beautiful to watch Michelle Ferreri try to interject with "Uh, uh, uh...." to defend her abominable behavior.

This was an incredible meeting, with the high quality of testimony from the Witnesses, MP questions and general discussion - except as usual, from our MP Michelle Ferreri. She continues to add nothing to the conversation, uses her time to speechify her non-expertise for clips instead of choosing to contribute to solutions on behalf of women in this country.

The petition to have her removed from this Committee is still active. Consider including yourself among the 3,100 other Canadians asking for her removal by signing and sharing.
