Episode 4: 112 Social Media posts to 136,000 followers! Our Riding? Not So Much
You read that right, folks. My MP Michelle Ferreri posted 112+ times in 5 days Nov 18-22/24 on her 3 official MP social media channels, reaching 136,000 followers.
Those 5 days cost taxpayers just under $20,000 in salary and expenses, based on tracking her spending since being elected. What did our Riding get? Well, let's Examine that.
Flooding her channels with videos, statements, attacks on female colleagues, Committee expert witnesses and re-shares, her point is to overwhelm - no one can keep up with 22 posts/day from your elected MP, each one designed to leave you on edge, looking for sources, trying to make meaning out of the rage she's baiting you with.
Personally, I can come to a few conclusions. Conservative support numbers are bad, Poilievre is still the only Party leader to not have a top level security clearance, she's working hard to remain on Poilievre's front bench, Liberal progress is astoundingly positive and the Foreign Interference Inquiry report is due in weeks.
With her volume, Constituents miss outlandish statements made by MP Ferreri this week at Committee and speaking on the House of Commons floor:
- "Inmates are given drug kits with needles", is her out-of-context statement referring to a highly controlled prison needle exchange program;
- "Child killers have free access to children in prison" is her out-of-context statement referring to mother-child prison rehabilitation programs;
- "Liberal insider trading is a cultural norm", referring to a Tweet she was forced to remove about Andrew Leach, LLM, PhD, a U of Alberta Professor of Economics and Law resulting in her now being under threat of being sued for defamation.
Coupled with the bombshell CBC report that Poilievre and his team are muzzling MPs, monitoring their every move, banning collaboration with non-CPC colleagues and rewarding those like Ferreri who vociferously support him, its no wonder that MP Ferreri is social media posting like mad this week.
- unsupportive comments on her 3 social media channels from both Constituents and non-Constituents alike;
- a private Facebook group, Concerned Citizens of Peterborough, with 700+ members who's leaders are educating members on just what our MP is saying and doing, providing a summary to that group on recent behaviour:
- The first crack of criticism in our staunchly Conservative print newspaper The Peterborough Examiner appeared this week with the revelation that our MP is ridiculously and unashamedly UNSUPPORTIVE of our Riding accessing and succeeding with a 2nd application for the Housing Accelerator Fund. Its a remarkable shift. In the last 10 weeks, our only print media has refused to publish at least 5 (that we know of) Letters to the Editor, including mine, that are critical of MP Michelle Ferreri.
On November 13, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Sean Fraser wrote to our MP asking for her input on our City's very strong $10million+ application, which he's ready to approve barring "any local factors she may believe are relevant to the circumstance":
Here is our MP's absolutely unhinged reply, with no statistic sources cited, which she published herself on her social media channels for all to see, thinking she has a "gotcha" moment in not supporting our Riding:
Honestly, I am ashamed by her sabotage of our City's leaders and staff, whom she is elected to represent, who have worked repeatedly to succeed with this Fund on our behalf. And sad that Conservative staffers are forced to write this stuff for her to sign. There's no way on earth that she penned this letter.
I will completely support Minister Fraser if he declines our application.
So where does all this leave us?
As a progressive Riding, with 60.9% of voters not supporting her in the last election, but a vote-split between Liberal, NDP, Green and Independents, we must have a community conversation about fielding one progressive candidate, like we saw in France's recent election, to defeat her. Re-elected, and with the polls (questionably) telling us a Conservative majority is in our future, she will be given a Cabinet position - can you imagine??? - and after 2 years, be eligible for a life-time pension. This is on top of her current costs to taxpayers sitting at just under $2 million in salary and expenses to date. She has hit the financial jackpot as a previously (allegedly fired) unemployed "influencer", with nothing to show for us - our community and her Riding.
She is not doing the job she was elected to do. Not even close. She is Poilievre's voice in our Riding, not our voice on Parliament Hill.
