Episode 3: 96.3% of Riding Businesses Don't Want to "Axe the Tax"

Well folks, our Riding of Peterborough-Kawartha finally got some attention from our MP Michelle Ferreri this week. It doesn't come off as planned though, nor as she presents it on her social media feeds. Shocker.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business spent the week on The Hill, meeting with many MPs and Senators. The CFIB is one of the most frequent and largest lobby groups, and was a darling of Stephen Harper, who according to this 2016 Maclean's article said, in rough translation, "I love you guys. And I'm willing to do whatever you want to show it." Their meeting with our MP Michelle Ferreri was but one of many last week.

After the meeting, she of course posted proof on her socials, and true to form, makes it sound like the Liberal government is dreadful and that everyone is against our current government. Its all she does. But when you dig in, which you have to do with this MP, it really does backfire.

You see, according to the 2024 Business Count conducted by the Peterborough-Kawartha Economic Development Corporation, there are 3,960 small and medium sized businesses in our Riding.

So...

149 businesses signing an Axe the Tax petition

= 3.77% of all businesses in the Riding

Perhaps their receipt of the Carbon Rebate by year-end has an impact on there being so few petition signatories? Or maybe its the reduction in credit card transaction fees effective Oct 15? Or the revised Code of Conduct for the payment card industry - all the large and small policies the Liberal government is implementing to support small business across the country.

And "destroying our economy?" I guess she didn't read this week's Bloomberg reports either.

But our MP doesn't research all that, nor does she listen to any of it. But she does hear: "149 Businesses in Peterborough signed a petition against Justin!", and that's what the CFIB wanted her to hear.

So our Riding got all of the above for her $15,000 week in salary and expenses, costing us over $1.65 million as of June, 2024.

Perhaps she'll hear this:

3,000+ Canadians have signed a petition demanding her resignation from the Status of Women Committee.  You can sign and share here.

Credit to Twitter user Lindy, for sparking this post by providing these stats on Michelle's Tweet, and for forwarding me her source. Without this type of collaboration by Canadians, Conservatives, and in particular my MP Michelle Ferreri, get away with baseless statements not centered in truth or honesty.
