Episode 8: MP Michelle Ferreri's Transphobic Tampon Video Resurfaces at Status of Women Committee

The second meeting discussing Hate Motivated Violence Targeting the 2SLGBTQI+ Community was held yesterday at the Status of Women Committee. Our MP Michelle Ferreri spent her time summarizing a Netflix film she'd recently watched, contributing nothing to the actual agenda issue. As usual, hot air, focused on herself, not moving Canada towards solutions. During this meeting, a line of witness questioning resulted in an incredible exchange  between Pam Damoff, Liberal MP Oakville North-Burlington and Fae Johnstone, Executive Director of the Society for Queer Momentum, where the thrust of the issue was articulated brilliantly about Conservative rhetoric impacting societal views. What is particularly striking at the end of this exchange is MP Damoff bringing the conversation back to MP Ferreri's transphobic dogwhistle video from December 2023 that she posted to her 3 official MP social media sites to 140,000 followers. Public outcry, and likely internal Party dynamics dictating mes...

Episode 7: MP Michelle Ferreri, 3 years in, has failed our Riding

Image
Three local headlines in the last 10 days show the real-life consequences of an MP who doesn't contribute to solutions in this Riding. Our MP, Michelle Ferreri, will tell us that it's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's fault, that it's Minister Sean Fraser's fault, that it's Minister Jenna Sudd's fault, that it's Minister Marci Ien's fault, the list goes on. But clearly, none of them are our MP. Who is responsible for representing us in Ottawa?  That representation means supporting and advising our leaders in accessing Federal funding programs beyond the lightweight programs of summer students and passports. When the going gets tough, Ferreri starts running...off her mouth. The fact that these three headlines have appeared in the last 10 days are the results of 3 years of inaction on the part of our MP. A failure. And community leaders are finally starting to speak up. I am reminded of her campaign promise to bring a desperately needed detox and treatme...

Episode 6: Bots for Ferreri & Intimidating Local Press

Image
Another $20,000 week in salary and expenses for our Peterborough MP Michelle Ferreri. And what did our Riding get? MP Ferreri stood in the House of Commons on Tuesday and prefaced her rambling, 18-minute obstructionist speech with "Madam Speaker, it is always a true pleasure and honour to rise in the House of Commons and speak on behalf of the incredible people of Peterborough-Kawartha". You can read what she had to say here  and decide if this actually does represent you. Her speech followed her normal performance arc of starting quietly, getting increasingly theatrical, waving paper around, leaning forward in anger and eventually yelling her points aggressively, this time to a mostly-empty House. But the video clips! Ah yes, the clips. A big change for her with a clip of this speech. Whoever makes these decisions decided that a portion of her speech was Bot-worthy, and Bot-amplify they did, in the thousands on X and YouTube. A small sample: *Thank you to X user Cdns for Tru...

Episode 5: MP Ferreri's Lies: Status of Women Committee Having None Of It

Taking time to watch Status of Women Committee meetings is a necessary and interesting endeavour. My Peterborough MP Michelle Ferreri has quite a history of abusing her allocated time on this Committee, using it as a clip factory to get Pierre Poilievre elected. If you've watched any of it over the last 2 years, you know that this is true.  You may remember this interaction from last year where newly-resigned MP Vandenbeld called out our MP for manipulating Committee time and business for clips: Within minutes of this exchange, Michelle Ferreri posted a clip that misrepresented what had occurred during this meeting - after protesting that this is not what she does! Fast forward a year, and this same behaviour by her has continued bolder & unabated, to Monday, November 25, 2024 and the Status of Women Committee members MP Leah Gazan and MP Pam Damoff are not having it. The topic is Gender Based Violence and Femicide.  MP Gazan opens her remarks, while directly looking at Mi...

Episode 4: 112 Social Media posts to 136,000 followers! Our Riding? Not So Much

Image
You read that right, folks. My MP Michelle Ferreri posted 112+ times in 5 days Nov 18-22/24 on her 3 official MP social media channels, reaching 136,000 followers.  Those 5 days cost taxpayers just under $20,000 in salary and expenses, based on tracking her spending since being elected. What did our Riding get? Well, let's Examine that. Flooding her channels with videos, statements, attacks on female colleagues, Committee expert witnesses and re-shares, her point is to overwhelm - no one can keep up with 22 posts/day from your elected MP, each one designed to leave you on edge, looking for sources, trying to make meaning out of the rage she's baiting you with.  Personally, I can come to a few conclusions. Conservative support numbers are bad, Poilievre is still the only Party leader to not have a top level security clearance, she's working hard to remain on Poilievre's front bench, Liberal progress is astoundingly positive and the Foreign Interference Inquiry report is ...

Episode 3: 96.3% of Riding Businesses Don't Want to "Axe the Tax"

Image
Well folks, our Riding of Peterborough-Kawartha finally got some attention from our MP Michelle Ferreri this week. It doesn't come off as planned though, nor as she presents it on her social media feeds. Shocker. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business spent the week on The Hill, meeting with many MPs and Senators. The CFIB is one of the most frequent and largest lobby groups, and was a darling of Stephen Harper, who according to this 2016 Maclean's article said, in rough translation, "I love you guys. And I'm willing to do whatever you want to show it." Their meeting with our MP Michelle Ferreri was but one of many last week. After the meeting, she of course posted proof on her socials, and true to form, makes it sound like the Liberal government is dreadful and that everyone is against our current government. Its all she does. But when you dig in, which you have to do with this MP, it really does backfire. You see, according to the 2024 Business Count ...

Episode 2: e-Petition Author, sponsored by Ferreri, celebrates at Trump rally in Georgia

Image
In the aftermath of the US election, its enticing to give up.  But then a social media post surfaces that strengthens our resolve. "Melissa Anne", on the right (literally) in her own Facebook post, is unemployed Melissa Outwater, Peterborough MP Michelle Ferreri's constituent responsible for leading the e-petition to initiate one of several failed non-confidence votes to oust Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. To note: as an MP, Michelle Ferreri can initiate a non-confidence vote on her own at any time. Ferreri's e-petition stunt used taxpayer money, both in her own Riding and in her Ottawa office, as well as Parliamentary resources to sponsor, draft, promote and certify this e-petition to get it on to the House of Commons floor and into the Parliamentary record.  It then required additional staff to provide a Government response in both official languages.  How much did that cost taxpayers? Ferreri hosted Ms. Outwater and her entourage afterwards to talk next steps and v...
